Ever since Our Secret Summer came out, I’ve been getting a variation on the question: “Isn’t this just Seasons of Love all over again?”
I totally get it. Both books feature an age gap, a summer setting, and a very inconvenient attraction that leads to equally steamy results.
But let’s be clear: Dylan is no Alice, Raffo is no Joy, and this is not a carbon copy—it’s more of what you love, just with a different flavor of deliciously forbidden. 😊
Seasons of Love is a true toaster oven—Alice is so buttoned-up she never even considered being attracted to another woman until Joy comes along and flips her world upside down.
And since the book is told entirely from Alice’s first-person POV, we’re right there with her, feeling every moment of her internal struggle between being a responsible adult and absolutely losing her mind over her best friend’s daughter.
Our Secret Summer gives us both perspectives in dual POV, so we get front-row seats to Dylan trying her absolute best to resist temptation.
Meanwhile, Raffo—fresh off a heartbreak—knows getting involved with Dylan, her best friend’s mother, is a terrible idea.
Do they do it anyway? Obviously. But unlike Alice, Dylan is very aware of her attraction to women (although she considers herself a bad bisexual 😍). She just never imagined she’d fall for this woman.
This creates a totally different dynamic between the characters in each book.
And then there’s the setting. Seasons of Love unfolds in a lush, sunny paradise in Portugal (Europe), while Our Secret Summer is all broody, intimate lake house seclusion in Big Bear (US).
One is a forced vacation (although Alice barely packed a bathing suit), the other is an attempted escape (Dylan most certainly packed many a skimpy bikini 👙).
Neither goes according to plan.
So, is Our Secret Summer just Seasons of Love 2.0? Not at all. But if you loved Seasons of Love, you’ll definitely love Our Secret Summer, too.
It has all the sizzling chemistry, intense longing, and emotional depth you expect from my books—just wrapped up in a whole new, very complicated package. 🔥
